Extra Study Room

We’ve shuffled some of the Library staff around, and released an office which is now set up as an extra Study Room. Study Room 7 has a PC and VHS player, but as yet no DVD player. As soon as DVD is installed, we’ll update the Blog.
UPDATE – DVD/VHS unit now installed!

Newspapers

From today we are taking The Sun, Mirror, Mail and Express newspapers (Monday to Saturday).  They can be found with our other newspapers on the ground floor of the library.  Online access to these and many other local and national newspapers is available through Newsbank (access via the library website > Search Online Resources > Online Newspapers).

Inscriptions in Books

Interesting blog where people can send in inscriptions that they find in books.  The project has been taken over by Found magazine.  Most of the inscriptions are from people who are giving the book as a gift.

Reading for life and leisure in the library

In a recent survey of UK academic libraries in the university sector, we were the only one to reply with a general reading/browsing collection, as opposed to a purely course-related collection of materials for loan.
 
Over the past few years we have bought books, CDs and Rental DVDs in the following categories:

BBC to release archive online free to those with a license fee

Soon we should be able to view online, many of items from the BBC archive.  They will allow those who have paid their license fee (how they will do that online, I’ve not heard.   I’m sure it will have something to do with signing up on the website, and then getting approval back for access.)
